Commonwealth Games 2010: Delhi, India

Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi

Overview

The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held in New Delhi, India from 3rd October to 14th October 2010. It will be the 19th edition of the games and for the first time they will be hosted by a city in India making it one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated events in world sport.

These games will break new boundaries for sport in India. It will be by far the largest multi-sport event the country has ever held and with an anticipated 71 nations taking part will give over five million Indian spectators the opportunity, not only to cheer their own teams on, but to experience and see new sports played at the very highest level.

Travel Places was very proud to be heavily involved in the 2006 Melbourne games, we looked after teams and spectators.  For the home nations it was a hugely successful two weeks, England coming in second on the medal table with 110, Scotland 6th with 29 and lots of the other nations gaining good returns.  The Welsh claimed 3 gold medals, the Isle of Man 1 and Northern Island were able to pick up 2 well deserved silvers.

For 2010, the Commonwealth Games will feature 17 sports that include Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Field Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Squash, Swimming and Weightlifting.

Venue:

The city of Delhi has been busy developing several stadiums that will host the games, these will undoubtedly leave a legacy to Indian sports teams for years to come.  The focus of events will take place at the refurbished Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which seats 60,000 fans and will for sure be the focal point of the games.  With the home nation strong in Hockey, Boxing and Badminton the new stadiums being developed for each of these sports will certainly create a buzz and a “must see” for the locals.  In total 13 venues will host the games, all of which will have their own unique style and design.

Travel Places:

Travel Places are delighted to be appointed as an official ticket and tours operator for the games.  We have put together two spectator packages for the event, these are based around our previous experiences of working on the games and offer our clients the opportunity to be a part of a “British Supporters Club”.  For clients who might be interested in 5* hotel packages we can also put these together on an ad hoc basis for you.
Travel Places have a proven track record in organising and handling large movements of clients to major events: with recent successes on the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in the past the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, plus the current Volvo Ocean Race.

Ground package prices (based on twin share), will range from our budget option at £1,205 in a three star property to £1,540 in a 4/5* property for a 10 night stay.  Accommodation is limited and we recommend making arrangements as soon as you can.

We are flexible however, and can quote for any trip, although currently hotels are asking for a ten night minimum stay.  If you wish to deviate from any of the packages listed please contact us and we will be happy to tailor an itinerary to suit your requirements. We will also be able to arrange car hire and any tours that you may wish to bolt onto your trip.
