Home Page I Destination menu

Abu Dhabi, (meaning father of gazelle in Arabic) is the capital and second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after Dubai. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast.

One of the world's largest producers of oil, Abu Dhabi has actively attempted to diversify its economy in recent years through investments in financial services and tourism.

The 2009 season will witness the first F1 Grand Prix in the UAE, and it promises to be an exciting destination with the added impetus of being last race on the calendar.

The Yas Marina Circuit is being built by the construction company Aldar Properties who are also constructing a theme park, Ferrari world, marina, residential areas, water park, sport and leisure facilities, as well as hotels and beach resorts in the surrounding area. Its twenty corners will twist through the natural island, passing the marina and winding its way through sand dunes, with several long straights and tight corners. The circuit has three planned grandstand areas and will have part of its pit lane exit run underneath the track.
