BAHRAIN
Transport:
Bahrain's public transport system is very limited - a small fleet of buses and no trains or trams. Bus fares are very cheap - just 50 fils (12 cents) a ride - but unless you have lots of time and tons of patience, you will quickly rule out this mode of transportation.
Local Taxis:
Taxis driven by local nationals are readily available in Manama, but may be less frequent outside Manama. All local taxis in Bahrain have meters, but you may find drivers reluctant to use them. Always agree on a price for any journey and never allow the price to be changed or re-negotiated.
Fares are 800 fils for the first 1.5 km and then 100 fils for every additional km. Between 22:00 and 06:00 hours, fares are BHD 1.200 for the first km and 150 fils for every additional km there after. There is an additional charge of BHD 1.000 if you are hiring a taxi from the airport. Taxis flagged down outside a hotel will be more expensive that if you were to flag it down in the street.
Radio Taxis:
Radio taxis are available by pre-booking and strictly go by the meter, though little higher than normal local taxis, they are a hassle free way to travel. Fare Receipts can also be obtained on request.
Car Hire:
The best option by far if you would like to go to places quickly and easily! To drive in Bahrain you need a GCC or an International Driving License. You have to present your license to be able to hire a car and it has to be endorsed by the Traffic Directorate. Do not worry; you can get it done at the car rental firm!
Practically everybody drives in Bahrain. This is the form of transportation Bahrain is the most equipped for. Several car rental companies - from small to the larges international firms - are at present in Bahrain and the all offering very good services.

Walking:
Manama is small and most areas of interest can be explored on foot. It is important to get a map before you start, because the small and lovely alleys can be confusing when you are trying to find your way back to your hotel.
Getting There:
From the UK British Airways and Gulf Air offer direct flights into Bahrain International Airport (the busiest hub in the region). Driving to BIA is easy via the modern road network. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Bahrain International Airport from Manama.
