For skiing or skating against a backdrop of Fuji, head for the open-air skating rink at Nippon Land HOW Amusement Park and Snow Park Yeti on the south eastern slope of Mt. Fuji.
A Fuji-area attraction of another sort altogether is the the Fuji Safari Park on the southeastern slope of the mountain. The Bernard Buffet Museum in the town of Nagaizumi, about 20 minutes by shuttle bus from JR Mishima Station, contains 1,000 works by this modern French artist.
For golf enthusiasts you could visit the Taiheiyo Club Gotemba Course, the venue of Sumitomo Mitsui Masters' Tournament. 18 holes, par 72, 7,232 yards.
Gotemba Premium Outlets:
The outlet is a big outdoor mall, with lots of high fashion brands at some reasonable prices by Japanese standards. Becasue Gotemba is at a higher elevation, it is advisable to bring a jacket as it may feel a little cooler.
Kirin-Seagram Gotemba Distillery (distillery tour):
A distillery in the heights (altitude 600m) at the foot of Mt. Fuji. This location satisfies the conditions for a good whisky distillery, those are clear air, moderate humidity, and pure and abundant water. The products of this distillery are whisky such as "Robert Brown", brandy, gin and vodka. Visitors' program to see the distillation of whiskeys using the spring water of Mt. Fuji, by video program and factory tour, with tasting.
Access: JR Gotemba station; bus for "Kawaguchiko" 15 min; "Mizukuno" bus stop; walk 5 min. Or Tomei Expressway Gotemba I.C; drive for Yamanakako 6km via R138.
