Two thousand years of European cultural history have certainly left their mark on Germany: Nowhere else will you find as many unique sites of natural and cultural interest situated so closely together. 30 of them have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites of "extraordinary universal interest" and have been placed under the protection of international conventions.
The region around Hockenheim has age old buildings and churches that echoes the rich architecture of the past. Buildings of historical significance include the Evangelist town church, a 1906 neo-baroque by architect Herman Behaghel the Catholic church (1910), done in art nouveau with a high tower, by Johannes Schroth and the old Catholic church (1817), serving as a community center today, which has a late gothic choir tower in classical hall construction.
Schwetzingen Palace:
The summer residence of the Palatinate Electors Karl Philipp and Carl Theodor, the "Palatinate Versailles". The palace was built from 1698, from 1742 palace gardens enlarged to a total area of 72 hectares, inspired by both French and English gardens; varied architectural elements, including the luxurious bathhouses of the Electors and the mosque. There is also a Rococo theatre dating from 1752, the elegant centre of the annual international Schwetzingen Festival. Schwetzingen is also famous for its "Schwetzingen asparagus.

Cinema:
In the IMAX cathedral film theatres moving pictures are projected on a gigantic canvas. The theatre house offers current strips from Hollywood to Babelsberg in 6 halls. The difference between IMAX and IMAX cathedrals lies in the kind of projection. With IMAX the picture is projected onto an enormous usually flat or easily curved canvas. The sharpness, clarity and brilliance of the pictures are captivating.
With IMAX cathedrals the picture is projected into an enormous dome, which gives still more the feeling of being in the midst of the action. The dome has a diameter of 24 metres and a height of 8 metres.
Music:
On the evening of the grand prix (24th July 2005) an open air concert is being staged of Carmina Burana (Carl Orff's breathtaking composition) at the Historical Museum in Speyer. The concert starts at 20:30, and promises to be a stunning performance.
Historical Museum Speyer:
The historical museum of the Pfalz accommodates six constant collections, which document the art and culture history of the city Speyer and the Pfalz: Prehistory, Roman time, the Middle Ages and modern times as well as the cathedral treasure and the wine museum. Furthermore several special exhibitions are offered annually.
