Food & Wine:
 Malaysian cuisine is exotic with an exciting range of flavours and culinary styles offering the uninitiated an endless gastronomic adventure. It comprises three main groups - Malay, Chinese and Indian with each having its own distinct style of cooking. There are also cuisines that have evolved from the meeting of cultures notably those of the Nyonya and Indian Muslim communities.
For the visitor who is interested in dining out, Kuala Lumpur boasts an extraordinary number of hawker stalls, coffee shops and restaurants, most of them offering a high standard of cuisine and often at very cheap prices.
The vast majority of places serve Malay, Chinese or Indian food, though international cuisine is also becoming more popular, with Italian, Japanese, Thai, Korean and fast-food outlets proliferating. Locals make little distinction between eating at inexpensive hawker stalls and pricier restaurants - the quality of food at a stall is usually just as good, and many offer regional dishes which aren't available elsewhere. There is, however some difference between the stalls themselves.
Traditionally, stalls were open-air and many still line the traffic-choked roads in little enclaves throughout the city. Increasingly, however, stalls are found grouped together in food courts, where the food is usually no more expensive but the surroundings are air-conditioned. Good as the stalls can be, for really special Malay cuisine you'll need to dine at one of the big hotel restaurants.
 Your stay would not be complete if you left KL without savouring its local delicacies. At the local markets and Sunday markets, you can sample local ' kuih', unique foodstuffs, desert and titbits. Street stalls sell a profusion of local delicacies like satay - sweet marinated meat skewered on thin sticks and barbequed over charcoal. Satay is always eaten with deliciously sweet and spicy peanut sauce, mee rebus - fried noodles, ais kacang - an array of beans, peanuts and colourful jellies topped with shaven ice and filled with coconut milk and sweet syrup.
Then there is nasi lemak - a breakfast fare made up of rice cooked with coconut milk, curry chicken or beef and sambal ikan bilis (fried chili anchovies). Local fruits like pineapples, papayas, bananas, mangoes, durians and rambutans are also not to be missed.
