Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09
Holidays:
The world truly is your oyster with such an interesting array of stopovers on the 2008/09 route.
Below we have outlined some ideas on destinations that will fit in with the schedule of the boats as they complete each leg of the 37,000 nautical mile round the world journey.
There are too many permutations for us to list every option, our aim is to give you a selection of hotels and ideas, and we can tailor make your requests accordingly.
The first stop to consider is after the boats reach Cape Town. This South African city is an ideal holiday destination in its own right, or if time permits can be a twin centre holiday combined with Durban or perhaps a safari.
Some clients are also keen to travel the relatively short distance and fly to Dubai between South Africa and India, renowned for its glamorous lifestyle, stunning hotels, Golf resorts and golden beaches.
At this point you may decide to skip South Africa/UAE and head straight for Kerala, a popular beach and cultural destination, before the start of the next leg at Kochi.
Christmas will be spent by many in Singapore, ideal for sightseeing, shopping and just flat out celebrating!
After Qingdao some of you may wish to explore South East Asia or the Australian Sub Continent, or even wait until the boats arrive in Rio de Janeiro and set your sights on the vast South American continent.
If you can only manage a short time away the arrival port for the Atlantic leg in Galway may provide a suitable short break along Ireland's beautiful west coast.
Tourist information is provided for each stop on the route under our Ports Destination Page, so you can use this to gauge your interest and decide where you might like to go. We have a fully comprehensive Stopovers Section on the website which will give you a range of hotels and basic information on many of the destinations we have outlined.
Simply complete the Holiday Request Form with your preferences and we'll endeavour to get the best deal possible on your travel plans. Once that's done it's Bon Voyage!
